FRPA Jacksonville University Student Chapter
The Jacksonville University student chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association is an organization dedicated to enhancing students’ understanding of the public relations profession through ethical and standardized practices. FPRA JU provides Communications majors at JU an opportunity to gain the valuable skills and foundations used by PR practitioners on a daily basis by incorporating networking, workshops, and hands-on interaction outside of the classroom.
The Florida Public Relations Association is a statewide organization of more than 1,200 public relations professionals dedicated to advancing the profession of PR and enhancing the professional development of its members. JU’s student chapter works alongside the Jacksonville professional chapter to enhance the professional development of JU students.
FPRA JU President
Thomas Ross is a double major at Jacksonville University studying Communication and Political Science. At Jacksonville University, Thomas is an involved student leader. In addition to his membership in the Political Science Society, Thomas serves as President of the FPRA JU Chapter, the Chief Operating Officer of Phin Communications Agency, and as a senator in the JU Student Government Association.
After his anticipated 2023 graduation, Thomas plans on attending law school. He is passionate about political engagement and public policy and intends on pursuing a career in politics or legal strategy.
FPRA JU Faculty Advisor
Dr. Courtney A. Barclay is an Associate Professor of Communication at JU. She teaches courses in strategic communication, social media, and communications law. Her research focuses on the laws and policies governing the use of new media in commercial speech. In addition to serving as the faculty advisor for the student chapter, Dr. Barclay is the President Elect for FPRA Jacksonville. She earned a Ph.D. and J.D. from the University of Florida, with a specialization in media law.
